EvoS Symposia will take place every year. They are one-day symposia with four to five national and international speakers. Attending the annual Symposium is mandatory for EvoS students. EvoS Symposia will be open to all others wishing to attend.

This year’s Symposium will take place on July 18th to commemorate the International Mandela Day. The program should be out soon.

In 2012 EvoS joined forces with the Portuguese Ethology Society, SPE, for the 9th National Congress of Ethology that took place at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. The program and poster can be found here.

The theme for the EvoS Symposium 2011 was “The Evolution of Human Free Will”: why did it evolve? How free is human free will? At the inaugural year of EvoS at the UL speakers were two evolutionary biologists, an evolutionary psychologist, and an institutional economist: Michael R. Rose (University of California at Irvine), David Sloan Wilson (University of Binghamton), Thomas Pollet (Free University of Amsterdam) and José Castro Caldas (Univ. of Coimbra).
